Lakers @ Rockets - Rick Adelman 11-4-09
Adelman was really frustrated after the Rockets 103-102 loss to the Lakers Wednesday night. Here's his post-game press conference.

Sigh
I keep telling myself, don't panic, Daryl Morey has it under control.
Yao gets hurt, it's ok, Morey will figure something out.
Gortat signs with Dallas, not a big deal, Joey Dorsey is healthy.
Rockets offer Ron Artest a one-year deal, ok lets see where this goes.
Now, Lakers have agreed to a three-year deal with Artest. It hurts to think about it.
On one hand, we won't see the over-dribbling, shot launching overrated defender on this Rockets team, but the hated Lakers now have Artest. Go east Ron, EAST!!
Now news has come out the Rockets have offered Trevor Ariza the mid-level exception. Sigh...$5 million plus to a guy that was made look like a budding star. The guy can't get his own shot, shakey shooter at best and when someone's in his face (ala Shane Battier or Artest) has a poor game/series.
It's more likely now that the Rockets push for Ricky Rubio. Les Alexander and Co. need to stock up for the future and Rubio is where the Rockets should be looking to start.
Let's just hope it's not five years before we mutter the word 'playoff' in this city again.

Rockets NBA Draft
The NBA Draft came and went last night, and for the first few hours Houston Rockets' fans were on their seats quickly falling asleep.
The second round hit and general manager Daryl Morey hit the floor running. Morey traded for three players in the second round.
First nabbing UCF shooting guard Jermaine Taylor from Washington (32nd pick), giving up cash considerations.
Taylor is a versatile guard who can flat out score (26.2 points per game, 3rd in the nation), something the Rockets could use if Tracy McGrady can't make the impact we know he can or if Von Wafer bolts elsewhere.
“First we got Jermaine Taylor, a kid from Central Florida, one of the best scorers in college this past year,” Morey said. “Very strong, can shoot, athletic, a guy that faced significant defensive attention, double and triple teams at Central Florida, but played well against top opponents.”
Next, Sergio Llull's (Yule) draft rights were had for more cash from Denver at the 34th pick. Llull is expected to stay overseas for a year or two. He's a combo guard, which should fit in well if the Rockets decide to bring him over. We saw head coach Rick Adelman go to more of the two point guard rotation with Aaron Brooks and Kyle Lowry down the stretch of games.
"We feel like Sergio Llull is an extremely talented point guard, a big point guard, which are hard to find," Morey said. "So, we feel like he's a real good bet for the future for either as a trade asset or to bring over some day."
Finally, Chase Budinger of Arizona was brought over from Detroit (44th pick) for a future conditional second round pick and some MORE cash.
Budinger is someone who can shoot, shoot and shoot. Maybe not the best pure shooter in the draft, but at 6'7" and pretty athletic, the Rockets will take a good look at him.
"Chase is one of the better athletes in the draft," Morey said. "He's a world class volleyball athlete, you know just as another example of a way he stands out, and we think he can obviously be a pretty good basketball player too."
Most fans may yawn at these picks, but Morey and Rockets owner Les Alexander got absolute steals all things considered.
The biggest positional need was not addressed when the Rockets did not decide to draft a center. But honestly it was the best move the Rockets made.
You never draft a player because you need that position. It goes for the NFL as well as the NBA.
No use of drafting a center just because you need a center. The Rockets will pick up a center via free agency or trade. Morey addressed that at the exit press conference a day after the Rockets were eliminate from the playoffs. He said you can't sign a big man just to get a back up for Yao Ming.
The Rocket's may be looking to move some parts they drafted last night and Morey danced around this last night after the draft.
"Look at the teams and couple of teams picked multiple, multiple players at the same position," Morey said. "So it's natural to expect, you know, they're probably either close to or working on a trade."
It's clear Morey was talking about Ricky Rubio *cough* *cough*. We'll see if there will be a move over the next few weeks.
Last season, the Rockets introduce Donte Greene out of Syracuse, and few weeks later Greene was shipped to Sacramento for Ron Artest. We could see a similar deal with some of these draft picks.
Now, Taylor, Llull nor Budinger are the athletes Greene is but all three players have extreme value for some teams. The Rockets can decide to keep all players or move Carl Landry to Minnesota, who desperately need a legit power forward.
The reason Landry is the one name I keep throwing out is because he's one of two of the Rockets that have the most value (outside of Yao) -- the other, McGrady's expiring contract.
Taylor and Budinger will be at Toyota Center this afternoon to be introduced to the media. It's only fitting that Budinger ends up in Houston, after his face got stepped on by UH guard Aubrey Coleman on Jan. 24.
The Rockets literally made something out of nothing in last nights draft. It would not be shocking if Morey pulls the trigger for a bigger splash. As a matter of fact, it would be a surprise if Morey doesn't make another move.

ShamWow vs. The Zorbeez
So, I was watching The Tonight Show today (recorded on my DVR from last night) and uber famous pitchman Billy Mays was on promoting his products and his new show.
Conan brought up the feud between Vince Offer (the ShamWow guy) and Billy Mays.
Now I had no idea what this silly feud was about, but apparently Offer stole idea from Billy Mays' Zorbeez. It came out before Offer's ShamWow.
I started googling the two products and found this.
Also the Quick Chop vs. the Slap Chop

NBA Draft - Rockets Perspective
Two days before the draft, the Houston Rockets have no draft picks.
There have been whispers out there that the Rockets want to trade into the first round, but at what cost?
It's hard to say what Rockets' general manager Daryl Morey and owner Les Alexander are willing to give away. The names that pop-up are Carl Landry, Luis Scola and Tracy McGrady (or his contract).
The Rockets will definitely not trade away both Landry and Scola, and it would seem Morey and Co. are more willing to part with Landry (what's his ceiling?).
Will that be enough to trade into the first round? Possibly.
What's more unlikely, but makes more sense is trying to find a suitor for McGrady's contract. If the Rockets want to trade into the top 10, they may want to look at Milwaukee at 10 or Minnesota at 6.
Rockets need a pure shooter to keep defenses from doubling Yao. Sure Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier are nice, but they don't fit the mold of the pure shooter.
The first name that comes to mind that may be on the market and will instantaneously help Houston is Michael Redd. Redd will make $17 million this upcoming season, while McGrady will make $23 million.
This will make it extremely difficult because draft picks have a $0 value until said pick is drafted.
The Redd for McGrady is really enticing for the Rockets, but it would be hard to compose a good reason for the Bucks to make this move.
Milwaukee may want to dump Redd's contract and get an expiring McGrady contract.
Mike Miller of Minnesota is another player the Rockets have been quietly seeking since 2007-08 season.
Miller makes about $9 million next season, and it will be even harder to nab him away from the Timberwolves because his contract also expires in 2010.
Minnesota will have the cap space after this upcoming season to make a run at one of the top free agents for 2010. The Timberwolves will have only $15 million under contract after this season ($13 million for Al Jefferson). Watch out for Kevin McHale to make a huge move next season to find a wing player to couple with emerging and possibly the best power forward in the west in Jefferson.
The next question is, will it be worth trading into the first round this season? The draft is not deep by any means, but it does have players that may be in the league for years.
The more realistic deal made won't be flashy or made a be deal. A guy like Eric Maynor from VCU, Wayne Ellington out of North Carolina or Chase Budinger of Arizona are all realistic options for the Rockets towards the end of the first round.
I don't expect Morey to pull the trigger just to pull a trigger. Expect Morey to make a move that will make you second guess Thursday but applauding him come June 2010.

Sleepy but don't want to sleep
I'm a little tired...but for some reason don't feel like sleeping. Maybe it's the iced coffee I had a free hours ago, that stuff is addicting.
Anyway, Rockets play game five tomorrow at the Rose Garden. I expect a very close game. Portland came out of the half in game four with tremendous intensity and I expect them to play with the same intensity at the start of game five.
If the Rockets can keep the game close and weather whatever the Blazers throw at them, they should be fine.
After a few rough games, I'm expecting a more aggressive Aaron Brooks. Going into the series, I expected Brooks to have a tremendous series, but after two 20-point outings, Brooks hasn't really done much at home. He needs to be taking more than five shots, which he did in game five.
Some random blurbs about our shows:
- We will have Texans general manager Rick Smith on Sunday, so tune in for that.
- Trying to get Texans tight end James Casey for The Front Page...will let you guys know how that goes.
- Trying to get a special guest, that Fred will LOVE for The Main Event on Monday.
- Matt will be in Las Vegas, so Jerome Solomon will guest host with Fred Faour on The Front Page Sunday.
I guess I'll head to bed...

4/26/09 Blazers @ Rockets End of 3rd
Rockets really need to match the Blazers intensity. Blazers made good adjustments at the half, Rockets need to do the same in the fourth.
4/26/09 Blazers @ Rockets
Rockets up only six - 50-44. It seems like the Rockets should be up more. Portland, though shooting 47 percent, hasn't played played well. Rockets need to come out and step on their neck.
Texans Draft
I love what the Texans did for the first four picks. What puzzles me a little bit is drafting tight end Anthony Hill from NC State and then in the fifth round taking tight end James Casey from Rice.
I thought the Texans would look at Casey with that 22nd pick in the fourth round, but went Hill instead.
I imagine Casey will play multiple positions. He can play full back, can play in a wildcat formation and tight end - very versatile player.
With Javon Ringer (Running back from Michigan State) out there, I thought the Texans would go there.

4/5/09 Blazers @ Rockets End of 1st
Both teams come out a little slow but picked up the scoring throughout the quarter.
Rockets up 31-25. Luis Scola is in foul trouble and you would think that would hinder the offense, but the Rockets are finding the open space and making great decisions with the ball.
Chuck Hayes is playing great defense on LaMarcus Aldridge, ripping him of the ball a few times and putting a hand in his face every time he shoots the ball.

6/18/09 Pistons @ Rockets End of 3rd
Pistons 65-64
There is no reason why the Rockets should lose this game. For some reason they can't fight off the Pistons and make a big run. It seems like Houston can't get a lead bigger than five or six.
It just seems like the Rockets are just fighting off Detroit when the Pistons make a run.
Rockets need to rebound and put together a run.

6/18/09 Pistons @ Rockets Halftime
Rockets 42-38.
Offensive rebounds have come back to almost even for both teams (Pistons 11, Rockets 9).
Rockets are shooting 50 percent from the field and the Pistons still shooting poor at 31 percent, but Detroit has 10 more freethrow attempts than Houston -- made eight more.
Rockets need to continue playing well on defense and get to the foul line.

Rockets 20-18.
Rockets shot 50 percent from the field and the Pistons shot 26 percent, but Rockets only up two points.
The difference in the first was offensive rebounds and turnovers.
Pistons have five more offensive rebounds than the Rockets and Detroit has not turned the ball over. Rockets had three turnovers.

3/18/09 Pistons @ Rockets Pre-Game
Day after Saint Patricks Day and ESPN national television game were some headlines you probably thought of last week, but the biggest story coming into Toyota Center is the news that broke Tuesday when Houston found out that forward Carl Landry was shot a few hours after he landed from New Orleans.
Landry was on route home when was struck and driven into a light pole by another vehicle. Two shots were fired and one caught the second-year forward in the leg.
Landry said he was lucky to be alive and the Rockets are lucky he's only out for a week to three weeks.
That may seem like an eternity since the Rockets (44-25) are in a tight Western Conference playoff chase, only two games separate themselves (2nd seed) and Dallas (8th seed).
The Detroit Pistons have been playing better since guard Allen Iverson went down with a back injury, but have not been playing well this season according to Pistons standards.
The .500 Pistons (33-33) are coming off a 103-101 loss to the Mavericks Tuesday and may not have top scorer guard Richard Hamilton for Wednesday's match-up due to a groin injury.
The Rockets did not have center Yao Ming for its 95-84 win against New Orleans Monday night, but expected to see its leading scorer back in the lineup against the Pistons.
Houston has dropped its last two home games against the Lakers and Spurs after a 12-game home winning streak.
We should see the Rockets that finished the game against New Orleans come out and expect to see more of Dikembe Mutombo since Landry will be sidelined for a few weeks.
The Rockets should win this game since Detroit is coming off a tough game against the Mavericks Tuesday night and the Rockets have played well at home since the All-Star break.

3/11/09 Lakers @ Rockets End of 3rd
Lakers came out with much more energy and Kobe started to look for his shots. That and a lot of turnovers and bad shots lead to the Lakers taking the lead late in the third quarter.
The Rockets fought off the run and lead 70-67.

Rockets 24, Lakers 24 after the first quarter.
The Lakers started the game on fire, especially Derek Fisher.

3/11/09 Lakers @ Rockets Pre-Game
The Houston Rockets have its big challenge coming into Toyota Center Wednesday night.
Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are in town to snap a Rockets 12-game home winning streak.
Houston (42-23) are the second hottest team in the league behind Utah and have played great at home for more than a month and the Lakers look to end that tonight, coming in tied with the best record in the NBA (50-13, with Cleveland).
The Rockets have shot well, played great defense and finally found an identity, which it has been looking for this season.
Everyone wants to keep pointing at Tracy McGrady's season-ending micro-fracture surgery as the turning point, and as well as they should, but when Ron Artest got healthy is when the season turned around.
Sure not having a set lineup before tipoff may have caused confusion among the players, but more so a non-gimp Artest sure does help limiting other teams best player and establish physical play.
Luis Scola has also been huge for the Rockets. You can pencil him in for a double-double almost every night. It's all the more impressive that Scola gets those double-doubles without having plays run through him.
Scola is the scrappy player teams need to win.
The most impressive part about Scola's game is the improvement he's made over the offseason. His defense is vastly better, his jumpers have been more consistent and he doesn't give up on a play until it's dead.
The Lakers will be without forward Lamar Odom for tonights game because he left the bench in Los Angeles' last game Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Blazer forward Rudy Fernandez had a clear break towards the basket when Trevor Ariza came from behind and hit Fernandez in the head and Fernandez's body contorted and flailed to the ground.
The Rockets cannot let Bryant beat them. Make Gasol put up 25 points or Derek Fisher or Jordan Farmer. Bryant cannot get off to a good start, or Houston's in for a long night.
Also the Rockets need to establish Yao Ming from the get go and don't stop attacking Gasol and the rest of the Laker front court. Get the Lakers in foul trouble and get to the line.
The Rockets should come out with another win, but it's going to be tough. Houston really needs to learn to hold on to leads in the fourth quarter if they want to be considered elite.

3/6/09 Suns @ Rockets Post-Game
As expected, a close and tough fought game. Rockets win 116-112
Did anyone feel like the Rockets were going to lose this game?
It got really close but it felt like the Rockets had Phoenix on a leash on offense. Defensively, Phoenix and Nash got what they were wanting, but the Rockets did the same.
The Suns made it real close and even tied it when they hit a couple of threes in the final two minutes, but Aaron Brooks came up big on the Rockets last possession, blowing past Shaq to get the game winning layup, combine that with a missed Nash three.

Rockets 81-76.
The lead the Rockets built up in the second quarter disappeared, as the Suns fought back to tie the game in the third quarter.
Phoenix started to hit its shots and the Rockets missed.
In the beginning of the second half, it was the Steve Nash vs. Aaron Brooks show. Both players went back and forth.
The Rockets need to clamp down on the perimeter shots and close out this game.

Rockets 56-46.
Phoenix shot back into the game early in the second quarter to take the lead.
Leandro Barbosa is playing well and scored 14 points to lead Phoenix.
Luis Scola is the constant the Rockets have had all year and Aaron Brooks is playing well, although he has had a few boneheaded plays.
Yao vs. Shaq right now stands at 10/7 - 8/3 advantage Yao.
Rockets need to play like they've been playing to end the half. Houston needs to run when they get a chance, keep the ball moving and play good defense.

At the end of the first quarter, Rockets are up 23-18.
The game started out pretty slow and sloppy, but the Rockets started to pick it up midway into the game.
Phoenix went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter.
Rockets need to continue to play good defense and take good shots.

3/6/09 Suns @ Rockets Pre-Game
The last time the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets faced each other, the game was halted for a scuffle between several players from each team.
Suns' forward Matt Barnes and now Orlando guard Rafer Alston got into each others face in the 94-82 Rockets win.
Alston took offense to Barnes' hard pick in the third quarter of that Nov. 12 game and a few possessions later, Alston shoved back.
Tracy McGrady came to Alstons' defense and Steve Nash the same for Barnes. McGrady and Nash got into it and Alston shoved Nash, the Shaquille O'Neal came over and started plowing any Rocket in sight.
Alston and Barnes were ejected and suspended.
Much has changed since that November night in Phoenix. For the Rockets (39-23), McGrady is out for this season and for the foreseeable future, Alston was traded to the Orlando Magic and the style of offense has changed.
For the Suns (34-27), Amar'e Stoudemire had his season cut short due to a detached retina, head coach Terry Porter was dumped at the All-Star break and the Phoenix picked up the tempo under head coach Alvin Gentry.
Both teams are coming off losses on the road.
The Rockets fought tough in the 101-94 loss to the Utah Jazz, while Phoenix was out gunned by Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat 135-129.
Both teams like to get up-and-down the floor, but only Houston is committed to playing defense.
While the Shaq vs. Yao should be mentioned, look for each of them to cancel each other out. The more interesting match-up is Nash and Aaron Brooks. Neither play well on the defensive side of the ball and both shoot well. The only difference is Nash's supremely better ball-handling skills. Look for a big game from both players.
This should be a close and up-tempo game. Look for the score to be in the century mark for both teams. The Rockets take pleasure in opposing teams taking jumpshots, but Phoenix is a great shooting team. Harass Nash and for the Suns to turn the ball over and take tough, late shots and the Rockets should record its 11th straight in at home.

3/3/09 Raptors @ Rockets Post-Game
Rockets win 107-97
Rockets started slow in both the first and third quarters but managed to make runs to in both quarters to hold off the Raptors.
A couple late 3-pointers put some separation between the two teams.
Yao, Scola and Landry played well as a front court. It's good to see Landry back out there for the Rockets and looks like that ankle isn't bothering him any more.
Brooks struggled a bit, more so not being aggressive than anything else.
Rockets have an extremely tough test tomorrow going to Utah.

3/3/09 Raptors @ Rockets End of 3rd
Rockets 77-72.
Raptors tied and took the lead in the third quarter but the Rockets fought back and regained the lead to finish the quarter.
Toronto started to front Yao using Chris Bosh. The bench came in and did a nice job. Luis Scola is playing extremely well, he has 16 points and 15 rebounds through three quarters.

Rockets 57-49.
Raptors cooled off and the Rockets caught fire. Rockets playing good defense and having Landry back makes a big difference.
Yao is playing well on offense but defensively, struggling a little bit.

3/3/09 Raptors @ Rockets End of 1st
Raptors up 26-20.
Toronto started the game on fire. Chris Both was making Yao come out and guard him. This might be a long game if the Raptors continue to hit their jumpers.
Toronto started the game on fire. Chris Both was making Yao come out and guard him. This might be a long game if the Raptors continue to hit their jumpers.
3/3/09 Raptors @ Rockets Pre-Game
The Houston Rockets worst defeat might have come in the hands of Chris Bosh and Co. with a sound 94-73 shlacking back on Jan. 2.
The Rockets (38-22) road woes continued on Saturday when they gave up a 17-point lead to the Bulls in the fourth quarter, which broke Houston's six-game winning streak.
Houston has another winning streak up at home the Raptors (23-38) can end tonight, a nine-game home winning streak.
The biggest problem for Houston has been the inability to finish the game. It wasn't just against Chicago, but the Rockets have had problems finishing the Blazers and Mavericks last week.
The Raptors have not been able to get a road win since the All-Star break (0-3). Toronto has also been horrendous in the first quarter, allowing more than 30 points in each of the three road losses.
Another problem for Houston has been its record against the East, a 14-12 mark. If the Rockets want to start establishing itself has an elite team, then wins need to come against teams with sub .500 record and teams coming out of the East.
A bright spot in some of the inconsistency is Ron Artest, Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry. They've played well and they will be key players down the stretch.
For Toronto, the addition of forward Shawn Marion hasn't been necessarily been the spark they were looking for. Since the Jermaine O'Neal, Marion swap with Miami, the Raptors are 2-4. Marion is, however, averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds a game.
It'll be Shane Battier's job to keep those numbers to a minimum.
The Rockets should win this game easily, but the Rockets have lost a lot of games this season they should have won easily.

2/26/09 Cavs @ Rockets Post Game
The most complete game out of the Rockets this season. Kept the Cavs out of the lane and forced them to take jump shots.
The Rockets kept the turnovers down in the second half and started to hit their threes.
Great, complete win for the Rockets

2/26/09 Cavs @ Rockets End of 3rd
Rockets 68-50.
Rockets playing their best defensive quarter I've seen in quite a while. Cleveland shooting a poor 31 percent from the field and the Rockets shooting 50 percent.
The most shocking stat is the seven assist the Cavs have. The Rockets making LeBron and Co. only jump shots.
The Rockets have blown fourth quarter leads in the past. They have to keep up the intensity on defense and take care of the ball.

Rockets 45-40.
Rockets picking up the shooting percentage, up to 46 percent. Cleveland staying in the game with offensive rebounding. Cavs have nine offensive rebounds to the Rockets three.
Rockets also have nine turnovers to Clevelands five.
Rockets need to take care of the ball and knock down open threes. Rockets 2-of-10 behind the arc. That needs to improve.

Pretty isn't really the word to describe the first quarter.
Cleveland shooting 18 percent while the Rockets best them shooting 28 percent.
Both teams missing wide open shots. The team that starts to connect will run away.
Should be interesting to see which bench plays better.

2/26/09 Cavs @ Rockets Pre-Game
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers stomp into Toyota Center looking to give the Houston Rockets its first home loss since the 95-93 loss coming to Philadelphia Jan. 28.
A loss that fueled the Rockets (36-21) to become outraged on how they've played up to that point and an eight-game winning streak.
The Rockets have put everything they were going through in January behind them. Tracy McGrady has been sheveled for the rest of this season, and maybe next too, Ron Artest is healthy and Aaron Brooks is thriving in his new role as a starter.
This Rockets team is not the one that Cleveland (44-11) saw back on Dec. 23. The Cavs saw Rafer Alston start, now in Orlando. The Cavs saw McGrady, injured. And the Cavs did not see Shane Battier in the 99-90 victory.
Cleveland guard LeBron James is coming off one of his worst statistically performances in the 94-79 win against Memphis, 15 points, but the Cavs still managed to play well.
It should be quite a test for the Rockets, as the tough part of the schedule started back with the 98-94 win against Portland. The Rockets are looking at eight road games, four back-to-back games and eight western conference playoff contenders after tonights game against Cleveland through March.
Look for the Rockets to come out strong and James will have both Artest and Battier in his face all night. If the Rockets can limit the amount of three-pointers, they can come out with a win

2/24/09 Blazers @ Rockets End of Game
Good defensive game from the Rockets, for the most part. The Blazers made runs in the third and huge fourth quarter, but the Rockets maintained poise and stuck it out to get out with a 98-94 win.
Luis Scola played great down the stretch, getting himself into get position on offense to get rebounds.
Yao was struggling in the first half, but really picked it up in the fourth quarter. Artest played a solid game on both ends of the floor. Both Yao and Artest had to leave the game with open cuts. Yao went to the locker room to stop the bleeding.
Next will be Cleveland. What test that'll be for the Rockets. If they continue to play like they've been doing, it should be a great game.
With the win, Houston moves ahead of Portland for 4th seed in the West.

2/24/09 Blazers @ Rockets End of 3rd
The Blazers made a run in the third quarter like expected. Rockets 17-point lead is now a nine-point lead, 78-69.
Expect one more run from the Blazers. Rockets need to establish Yao. Joel Pryzbilla is playing good defense on Yao, playing defense with his body.
It's going to be a good fourth quarter.

2/24/09 Blazers @ Rockets Halftime
Rockets bench getting it done. Von Wafer, Kyle Lowry and Chuck Hayes providing offense in the second quarter. Yes, I said Chuck Hayes.
The Rockets playing tremendous defense in the second quarter, limiting the Blazers to tough jump shots, while the Rockets are getting to the rim.
Halftime, Rockets 60-43 lead. Let's hope they can keep it up. They can't come out flat. I expect the Blazers to come out trying to get to the basket. Expect more pick and rolls with Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Rockets 31-21 after 1st quarter. Blazers came out strong, taking an early 6-2 lead, but the Rockets finally got its offense and defense together to smother the Blazers the for majority of the 1st quarter.
Yao's in foul trouble.
Scola and Artest playing well.
Yao's in foul trouble.
Scola and Artest playing well.
2/24/09 Blazers @ Rockets Pre-Game
The Portland Trail Blazers come into Toyota Center to take on the red-hot Houston Rockets.
This will the first time the Blazers and Rockets meet after Portland guard Brandon Roy's buzzer beater that gave the Blazers the 101-99 win in Portland Nov. 6, 2008.
The Rockets (35-21) are right on the heels of the Blazers (35-20), who hold the fourth seed in the West.
Houston's riding a seven-game home winning streak into Toyota Center, while the Blazers have lost its last three road games.
The key match-up should come to no surprise. Rockets guard/forward Ron Artest and forward Shane Battier will have the opportunity to give Roy fits.
Watch out for Rockets guard Brent Barry. Barry should see some more playing time because the Blazers point guards aren't the quickest in the NBA. He was out here shooting around and the man was connecting on almost every shot. Barry hit 19 shots in a row before rimming out the twentieth shot.
Injury plagued Blazers center Greg Oden is not expected to play, so the first Yao/Oden match-up will have to wait some more.
Should be an exciting game. The Rockets should come out strong.
One weird and strange note. The Blazers hired a sleep psychologist this season. They do everything on Pacific time. They wake up, eat, practice Pacific time. Maybe that's why Portland's record is 12-15 on the road.
But then again Houston's road record is 13-15.
Will update after each quarter and stay tuned for post-game audio.

2/22/09 Ron Artest vs. Bobcats

2/22/09 Bobcats @ Rockets 3 Minutes Left
Gerald Wallace just got ejected. Rockets look to cruise, they have an 89-69 lead with 3:55 left.
We got a Deke sighting and still no Brian Cook. Rockets locked down in the second half and went to Yao constantly. Good strategy, good win. Next two games will be a test for the team. Portland and the Cleveland.

2/22/09 Bobcats @ Rockets End of 3rd
Rockets came out much better than they finished. They went back to Yao heavily in the third quarter. Rockets up 73-56.
Let's see if the bench can keep it up. The Rockets seemed to have no sense of direction when the second unit is in.

2/22/09 Bobcats @ Rockets Halftime
Terrible second quarter by the Rockets. Rockets still lead 42-40, but the Bobcats outscored the Rockets 22 to 17.
The Rockets looked out of sync on offense and defensively they were mediocre.

2/22/09 Bobcats @ Rockets End of 1st
End of the first quarter, Rockets up 27-20. Defense was pretty good, holding the Bobcats to 35 percent. Turnovers were a problem to start the game, but the Rockets took care of the ball as the first quarter went a long.
2/22/09 Bobcats @ Rockets 20 Minutes Before Tip
Sunday game, expected to be a small crowd and what a small crowd it is with 20 minutes until tip. But of course these are Rockets fans. They like to cruise into their seats about 5 minutes after tip-off.
This game seems like it could easily be a trap game for the Rockets and Jason Friedman said it earlier on The Front Page (Sundays 8am-12pm), the Rockets usually don't get up for these early games. We'll see how they fare this afternoon.
I don't see Carl Landry as the Rockets run out onto the court. Brian Cook could see some playing time, especially if the Rockets come out flat.

Wow...22 turnovers. If the Rockets lose, they beat themselves.
2/20/09 Mavericks @ Rockets End of 3rd Quarter
Ask and I shall receive. Rockets came out like they finished, outscoring the Mavericks 30-17 to take a 74-64 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Rockets bench cannot lapse in the beginning of the fourth. Keep playing great defense, limit Mavs to jump shots and take good shots.

2/20/09 Mavericks @ Rockets End of 1st Half
I arrived mid-way into the second quarter when the Mavs had a 10-point lead. It's half time right now where the Mavs lead 51-44.
Kyle Lowry has four points. He had a nice drive to the basket in the second quarter.
It's a good thing the Rockets were able to stop the bleeding and cut the, what once was a 14-point lead in half.
Hopefully they start the second half like they finished the first half.

2/17/09 Nets @ Rockets 3:00 left
Rockets up 102-80. Good showing for the team. Rockets killed from 3, 14-28 beyond the arc. The Rockets defense was pretty good for the most part. Hopefully this can spur them on.

Rockets 84, Nets 65. Rafer Alston playing extremely well.
Rockets out rebounding the Nets 42 to 25.
Rockets lose Carl Landry for the game with a sprained ankle he suffered in the 2nd quarter.

2/17/09 Nets @ Rockets End of 2nd
Rockets up 56-40 . Rockets should be up more. They've missed too many layups, especially Luis Scola.
Both teams shooting less than 40 percent, but the Rockets have taken advantage of the three-pointers (7-14) and have been to the line more than the Nets (11-14).
Looks like Shane Battier has found his shot again, along with a dark tan.

2/17/09 Nets @ Rockets End of 1st
Rockets started off slow, but came strong as the 1st quarter went along.
Brooke Lopez looks like the real deal. Good defensive player, decent shot and played Yao well.
Both teams shot less than 40 percent but the Rockets hit on 4-of-8 beyond the arc. The Rockets played extremely well defensively, lets see if it continues.

2/17/09 Nets @ Rockets Pre-Game
Man traffic sucked. Left my house around 5:30 and got to Toyota Center around 7. No accidents, no stalls or any other freeway hazards.
Anyway, I'm going to try and posting post-game audio from this game on. Heavy trade talks swirl around the Nets and Rockets. ESPN.com reported earlier today that the Rockets and Nets were in heavy talks about working a trade. Supposedly the Rockets offered Tracy McGrady up for Vince Carter and Trenton Hassell. The Nets countered with Vince Carter and Josh Boone for Ron Artest, Shane Battier, Carl Landry and Luther Head. Doubt this trade will happen because the Nets are asking for too much.
Tracy McGrady not suiting up tonight, while Vince Carter plays. We'll see what the players/Adelman will say about trade talks after the game.

2/3/09 Bulls @ Rockets End of 3rd
Tracy McGrady really came to play. Rockets up 79-66.
Hope McGrady's play is a trend not just a streak.

2/3/09 Bulls @ Rockets Halftime
Rockets up 48-45 at the half. Bulls finish the second quarter strong.
Bulls have taken 20 free throws (11-20) and the Rockets have 8 (7-8).
Yao's in foul trouble with three but does have 11 points.
Tracy McGrady looks good, playing well on both ends of the floor.

2/3/09 Bulls @ Rockets End of 1st
Both teams shooting poorly. Rockets at 36 percent, Bulls at 24 percent. Rockets lead 20-18.
Tracy McGrady looked like he had more hop in his step. He slammed one over Tyrus Thomas.
Yao Ming and Carl Landry both have two fouls.

1/31/09 Warriors @ Rockets 2 minutes left in the game
About 2 minutes left, Rockets with a 100-89 lead.
Looks like they're going to hold on this time. Brooks played extremely well and so has Carl Landry.
Hopefully they work out what's going on defensively. This team looks like they've lost their passion on defense.

1/31/09 Warriors @ Rockets End of 3
Rockets playing inconsistent...Luckily the bench has picked up its game. Aaron Brooks is playing really well.
Rockets playing just horrid defense and it seems like its been like that for a few months now

1/31/09 Warriors @ Rockets Halftime
53-51 Rockets after CJ Watson hit a half court shot at the buzzer to end the half.
The bench played well in the 2nd quarter, especially Aaron Brooks. Brooks looks like he's out of his slump and playing a lot more aggressively.
Freethrows have been a problem though. The Rockets are shooting 15-of-22 from the line.

25-20 Hou
Rockets shooting 38 percent, missed four free throws and up 5...
That will have to change if the Rockets want to win this game.

8 secs?
Monte Ellis just got called for an 8 second violation...do we see those any more??
That's the first one I've seen this season

1/31/09 Warriors @ Rockets 40 minutes until tipoff
Is it just me or should Houston Rockets fans be worried that their top two players never shoot around before they all come out?
I'm just wondering because I see Stephen Jackson and Monte Ellis shoot around for the Warriors for about 20 minutes.
Just curious..

Broken Wrist
So I broke my wrist on Sunday and its been a pain ever since. My first broken bone ever and hopefully my last.
I will retire from tackle football as of right now. That's right, at the tender age of 24, I retire from tackle football. I've enjoyed the moments its given to me and I have to say I won't miss it at all.
Anyway, I can't type too long, so I'll keep this short. Sunday on the Front Page we've got the almighty Jason Friedman from Rockets.com joining us along with Tim Kurkjian from ESPN.

Heat @ Rockets Jan. 17, 2009 End of 1st
Rockets 25 Heat 21
Yao with 10 points. Rockets look good.
Baby race, no contest. Baby with Longhorns shirt ran that sucker, while the others crawled.
I wonder how Daryl Morey is doing?
Batteries running out...No more posts this game

Heat @ Rockets Jan. 17, 2009 First Timeout
Rockets shooting 62 percent, 0-for-3 from three-point land...As we speak, it's Daryl Morey's son's birthday and of course Clutch had to be a part if it...He runs up the stairs with a cake for Morey's son and BAM, hit's Daryl in the face with the cake.
Von Wafer, Yao and Luis look really good.

Heat @ Rockets Jan. 17, 2009 Tip
Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming exchanged a hi-five during starting introductions.
Looks like the Rockets will only dress 10 players again this game.
Von Wafer starts off the game with a lay-up all by himself.

Heat @ Rockets Jan. 17, 2009 30 minutes until tip
30 minutes until tip off and look what we have here, Ron Artest shooting around and mingling with fans. Artest shot around for 10 minutes and now sitting down with a few fans.
It was good to see Artest out and shooting around. My question is, where was Tracy McGrady? Not to pile on T-Mac, but it's a little strange that we don't see him around for the last few games.
As Artest was shooting around, I could hear the Red Rowdies making their way through Toyota Center. They really make an often quiet Toyota Center really loud.
We all know Toyota Center isn't the most intimidating place to place. It probably ranks somewhere in the middle, that's just a guess if you poll players.
What really impressed me was Von Wafer. He came out around 70 minutes until tip-off and shot around for a good 35-40 minutes.
Wafer played extremely well Tuesday against the Laker. He should be able to play well for the next week or so, before scouting reports come out on him. He'll probably have to adjust next week, but he should play well against the Heat.
About 20 minutes until game time, it should be a good game. If the Rockets hold down the perimeter shooting, the Heat shouldn't leave Houston with a win. Dwyane Wade will get his points, but force him into turnovers and the Rockets should be fine. FTY, Dwyane Wade celebrated his birthday last night at the House of Blues.

Heat @ Rockets Jan. 17, 2009 80 minutes until tip
83 minutes until game time, and guess who's out here practicing free throws? Rafer Alston. After missing two free throws against the Lakers on Jan. 13 that could have tied the game, Alston is on the practice court going over his throws.
It's good to see some Rockets out here practicing early, like Luis Scola, Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks.
Aaron Brooks is sporting a headband right now. Will he be busting it out for the first time this season?
Battier is on the baseline practicing jumpers, Scola's running across the top of the key and catching and shooting and Brooks is at the very top taking threes.
Chuck Hayes and Carl Landry make their way to the floor to do some stretching.
That's it for now...Well we see a few Heat on the floor. Shawn Marion, Daequan Cook, Udonis Haslem and Mark Blount.
